I do actually measure the amount if thread needed for the last ring and rewind the shuttle! This is a new form of Celtic Tatting that is original to Karen Bovard (The ShuttleSmith). Completed Motif The ball thread also has to be cut so it can be threaded through the loops. Frivole and Jon were also practicing these rings, and I was quite envious that they were forging ahead! The last ring, of course, is the tricky one, but with practice it does get easier. Then I found Karen's video using the shuttle. This small narrow shuttle is designed for facilitating the weave techniques popular in Celtic tatting designs. Whereas Shuttle tatting can be complicated to learn, most people quickly acquire needle tatting skills. ![]() I was certainly inspired by those who have also shared their knowledge! As you know, in 2012 I was inspired by the amazing designs of needle tatter Rachel Jackson (Piney Woods Tatter), but didn't know if it was possible to do them with a shuttle.
